Lawrence Edward “Larry” Johannes, 73, died on Monday, June 17, 2019, in Garden City.

He was born on Sept. 28, 1945, at Scottsbluff, Neb., to Edward Walter and Ruth Elizabeth (Schleicher) Johannes. He married Karen Dee Andrews on Jan. 30, 1970, at the Church of Christ in Mitchell, Neb.

Larry graduated from Sunflower High School in Mitchell, Neb., and then attended the University of Nebraska, where he received his bachelor's and master's in soil fertility and agriculture economics. In 1976, he moved to Garden City, where he owned and operated Spray Way Lawn Care for 25 years. He enjoyed spending time with his family, watching westerns and Nebraska Cornhusker football.

He is survived by his wife, Karen Johannes; sons, Matthew Johannes and wife Sara of Garden City, Joshua Johannes and wife Emily, and Caleb Johannes, all of Kirbyville, Mo.; brother, Phillip Johannes of Fremont, Neb.; sisters, Linda & Amundson and husband Cliff of Bartlesville, Okla., and Cindy Francil of Firth, Neb.; and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two daughters, Sarah Avila and Traci Johannes.
