JOHNSON — Hermilo Avitia-Misclez, 71, died Monday, June 17, 2019, at his home in Johnson. He was born Jan. 13, 1948, in Gomez Faris, Chihuahua, Mexico, to Jesus and Candelaria (Misclez) Avitia.

Hermilo married Cora Minjarez in 1972 in Rocky Ford, Colo. They have lived in Johnson since 1976.

He is survived by his wife, Cora, of the home; son, Gildardo Avitia of Johnson; daughters, Tina Olivas of Las Cruces, N.M., and Alicia Avitia of Johnson; sisters, Ramona Torres of Newton and Chavela Ruiz and Carmelina Ruiz, both of Denton, Texas; six grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother and four sisters.

Vigil service will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday and funeral Mass will be at 11 a.m. Friday, both at Mary, Queen of Peace Catholic Church in Ulysses. Interment will follow at the Stanton County Cemetery in Johnson, Kansas.

Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Thursday at Garnand Funeral Home in Johnson.
