Catherine “Katie” Herman, 84, died June 14, 2019, at St. Catherine Hospital in Garden City.
She was born Oct. 19, 1934, in Jefferson City, Mo., to Vincent and Esther (Prenger) Becker. Katie grew up in Jefferson City, where she attended school and graduated from St. Peter’s High School. On Oct. 27, 1962, she married Ronald Herman in Jefferson City. They moved to Dodge City in the late 1960s and Katie moved to Garden City in 2008 after Ronald's death in 2005.
A homemaker, she worked at Kline’s Department Store, St. Mary of the Plains College and Dodge City Community College. She was a member of St. Dominic Catholic Church of Garden City, the Daughters of Isabella, Altar Society and served as a Girl Scout leader for many years. She enjoyed gardening, helping people and spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren.
She is survived by her daughters, Karen Kiley and husband Larry, of Hugoton, and Kim Fisher and husband Brandon, of Garden City; brother, John Becker, of Jefferson City, Mo.; sister, Sister Mary Ester Becker, of St. Louis, Mo.; and grandchildren Ethan Fisher, Parker Fisher, Zachary Kiley and Caitlin Kiley.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Ronald; her parents; her step-mother, Alberta Becker; and brothers Robert Becker, Brother Marvin Becker and Bernard Becker.
A funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. Dominic Catholic Church in Garden City. A graveside service will follow at 2:30 p.m. at Maple Grove Cemetery in Dodge City.
