HOLCOMB — Dennis Wayne VanCleave, 76, died Friday, May 17, 2019, at his residence in Holcomb.

He was born Dec. 28, 1942, in Montezuma, Iowa, to Arthur and Mavis VanCleave.

He played for the Philadelphia Phillies organization when he was 20 and 21 years old and later became a truck driver.

He was a member of the Holcomb community since 1977, having moved from Gove County.

On Oct. 11, 1968, he married Sandra Wilson in Leoti. She survives.

Other survivors include two children, Todd VanCleave, of Tonganoxie, and LaRae Eckhardt, of Henderson, Nev.; one brother, Bill VanCleave, of Bloomfield, Iowa; two sisters, Shirley Hoksbergen, of Grinnell, Iowa, and Sandra Little, of Barnes City, Iowa; and six grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Sharon Hendricks; two brothers, Dwayne VanCleave and Mike VanCleave; and one son, Wade VanCleave.

Private family interment will be held at the Beulah Cemetery, Leoti.
