Miguel Chavez, 79, died Wednesday, May 8, 2019, at St. Catherine Hospital in Garden City.

He was born Sept. 27, 1939, to Miguel and Maria del Refugio Chavez in Cuidad Juarez, Chihuahua, Mexico.

He married Socorro Salas in Durango, Mexico, on Sept. 1, 1959. She preceded him in death on Sept. 27, 2013.

They moved to Garden City in 2009 to be closer to their children. He had worked as a cattle pusher at IBP in Cactus, Texas.

Survivors include his children, Ofelia Jimenez of Salina, Oscar Hernandez of Garden City, Salvador Chavez of San Antonio, Texas, Hortencia Valdez of Amarillo, Texas, Jose Antonio Chavez of Midland, Texas, Miguel Chavez of Amarillo, and Luis Flores of Garden City; 26 grandchildren; and 22 great-grandchildren.

In addition to his wife, he also was preceded in death by his parents and children, Leticia Chavez and Alfredo Chavez.

A rosary will be held 4 p.m. Saturday at Garnand Funeral Home of Garden City.
