Max Ralph Miller, 93, died Sunday, May 5, 2019, at his home in Garden City.
He was born Feb. 5, 1926, in Garden City to Ralph H. and Esta Idell (Steen) Miller.
He grew up on the family farm north of Deerfield. He attended Deerfield Schools and graduated from Deerfield High School in 1944.
On Dec. 26, 1947, he married Marianne Reed in Garden City. They lived on the family farm until 1985, when they moved to Garden City. They have lived in Garden City since.
A lifetime farmer and stockman, he was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Garden City, a member of Master Farmers, and served on numerous boards and committees in southwest Kansas. He was a car enthusiast and enjoyed collecting cars, traveling and playing Rook with friends.
Survivors include a daughter, Merrilee and husband John Thomas of Fountain Hills, Ariz.; five sons, Gerald and wife Beverly Miller, Marc Miller, Monte and wife Nancy Miller, Ross and wife Patricia Miller, and Kyle and wife Dana Miller, all of Garden City; a foster daughter, Gayla Woods Spitz of Weatherford, Texas; a sister, Shirley Tillotson of Ulysses; 15 grandchildren; and 23 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, who died Dec. 4, 2012. He also was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Rex Miller and his wife, Beverly; and a niece, Jacqueline Miller.
A celebration of life service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at First United Methodist Church in Garden City. A private family committal service will take place at a later date. There will be no calling hours.
The family is suggesting no flowers, but memorials may be given to the Max Miller Memorial Fund to which the family will donate to various organizations in the community.
