COPELAND — Walter L. Birney, 84, died Jan. 8, 2019, at Bob Wilson Memorial Hospital in Ulysses.
He was born on April 25, 1934, to Claude D. and Mildred E. (Farris) Birney in Sublette.
He married Iva Lou Mosher in 1954 in Sulphur Springs, Texas.
He received his ministry degree at Dallas Christian College and was the minister at the Christian Church in Copeland for over 25 years.
He is survived by his wife; two sons, Mickey Birney of Ellsworth and Scotty Birney of Garden City; two daughters, Lorrie Ortiz of Overland Park and Lindie Andreas of Copeland; one sister, Claudette of North Highland, Calif.; and three brothers, Larry Birney of Copeland, Michael Birney of Dodge City and Neil Birney of Anderson, S.C.; 10 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Robert Birney; and one son, Gary L. Birney.
Funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at Sublette Christian Church. Burial will follow at Copeland Cemetery.
Visitation will be from noon to 8 p.m. Friday at Swaim Funeral Chapel in Sublette, with the family receiving friends from 6 to 8 p.m.
