Kenneth “Kenny” Johnson, 87, died Tuesday, Jan. 1, 2019, at the Cottages in Garden City.

He was born July 6, 1931, in Texline, Texas, to Simon and Edna (Herber) Johnson.

He married Ethel Morrell on June 5, 1955, in Beloit.

He attended schools in Hillsdale, Okla. In 1950, he moved to Beloit to work on a custom harvesting crew and later managed an implement business in Beloit. He moved to Stockton to work for an implement business, and in 1961 moved to Garden City to manage a service station. In 1970, he established K.L. Johnson Trucking, Inc., and spent many years hauling agriculture products in the area.

He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Garden City. In his earlier years, he enjoyed participating in rodeos and later got into horse racing.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Robert Lee Johnson and Le Roy Johnson; and two sisters, Glenna Davis and Lila Sanders.

He is survived by his wife, Ethel Johnson of the home; a son, Don and Jane Johnson of Garden City; two daughters, Debbie and Mike Rome of Holcomb, and Brenda and Darren Cacy of Overland Park; a brother, Raymond D. and Beth Johnson of Salem, Ore.; a sister, Agatha Darlene and J.L. Bowen of Kremlin, Okla.; 18 grandchildren; and 28 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at First United Methodist Church. Burial will follow at Valley View Cemetery in Garden City.

Visitation will be 2 to 8 p.m. Thursday and 9 to 11 a.m. Friday at Garnand Funeral Home in Garden City.
