DIGHTON — Howard Lawrence, 80, of Dighton, died Wednesday, May 16, 2018, at Sheridan County Health Complex in Hoxie.
He was born Nov. 14, 1937, in Dighton, to Sam and Elsie Marie Doris Lawrence. He graduated from Dighton High School.
On June 25, 1963, he married Carolyn Joyce Adams in Dighton. She died Dec. 9, 2016.
Mr. Lawrence was a life-long farmer-stockman and cattle buyer in Lane County. He was a member of the United Methodist Church of Dighton, past member of the Lane County Soil Conservation Board, Farmers Oil Board, Wilson Township Board and was very involved with Lane County 4-H. He enjoyed carving canes out of hedge posts, collecting unique canes, collecting pocket watches and pocket knives. He later started restoring McCormick Deering and Case IH tractors. He especially enjoyed being part of his grandchildren’s lives.
Survivors include two daughters, Kymberly and Dan Hop of Rapid City, S.D., and Kamala Ries and Steve of Pueblo, Colo.; a son, Stacy and Angie Lawrence of Shields; a brother, Marvin Lawrence of Whiteboro, Texas; a sister, Joy Bretz of Hoxie; and five grandchildren.
Funeral will begin at 11 a.m. Saturday at the United Methodist Church in Dighton, preceded by burial at Dighton Memorial Cemetery.
