Louis J. Normandin, 91, Olathe, formerly of Hays, died Friday, April 13, 2018, at Good Samaritan Society, Olathe.

He was born Feb. 20, 1927, in Damar to Norman C. and Irene (Benoit) Normandin. He was a graduate of Damar High School. He earned a bachelor’s degree in elementary education from Benedictine College.

He married Irene M. (Augustine) Lambrecht on Feb. 1, 1964. They celebrated more than 54 years of marriage. He was an elementary school classroom teacher for 31 years for Hays USD 489. He was a U.S. Army veteran, serving during World War II.

He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, the Veterans of Foreign Wars, the Third Degree Knights of Columbus in Olathe and Bishop Cunningham Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus.

He enjoyed fishing, hunting, and spending time with his family.

Survivors include his wife, Olathe; a son, Brian Normandin and wife, Tonya, Olathe; a stepdaughter; Carmie Ferland and husband, Don, Marlow, Okla.; four brothers, Eugene Normandin and wife, Helen, Colby, Alfred Normandin, Poquoson, Va., Donald Normandin and wife, Linda, Damar, and Richard Normandin and wife, Mallone, Hays; two sisters, Jeannie Bellerive, Plainville, and Della Huhmann, Tuscumbia, Mo.; two sisters-in-law; Lavonne Normandin, Plainville, and Joanna Normandin, Hays; four grandchildren, Nickolas Normandin, Ty Normandin, Lance Ferland and wife, Cami, and Joel Ferland and wife, Mindee; and five great grandchildren; Tyler, Macy, Ivy, Trevor and Luke.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Duane and Melvin; a sister, Mary Ann Meyers; and a stepdaughter, Janelle Bryant.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Hays; burial in St. Joseph Cemetery with military honors by Hays VFW Post No. 9076.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday and from 9 to 9:45 a.m. Wednesday, both at Hays Memorial Chapel Funeral Home, 1906 Pine, Hays, KS 67601. The Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus will stand honor guard from 5:30 until 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

A vigil will be at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, and a combined Third and Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus rosary will be at 7 p.m., all at the funeral home.
