Victor Ornelas goes to remote learning

Victor Ornelas Elementary School closed to on-site classes and move to Level 6 Remote Learning, from the district’s operational plan, as of Thursday, Nov. 5.

The decision was made due to several positive COVID-19 cases within the school and the temporary lack of available staff necessary to operate classrooms safely and effectively at the school.

The move to Level 6 Remote Learning at the school was done out of an abundance of caution, it was decided by USD 457 to close the elementary school through Nov. 13, pending no further positive COVID-19 cases and district operational levels. The district will have a facilities crew deep clean and disinfect the school while the closure is in effect.

Parents with students in classes of a case were notified by Garden City Public Schools. The Finney County Health Department will follow up with phone calls to the parents of those that need to quarantine due to exposure to COVID-19.

The top priority of Garden City Public Schools USD 457 is the safety and health of students, staff and the community.  The district askes families to continue to be vigilant and help decrease the spread of COVID-19 by washing hands, social distance by at least six feet or more, wear a face mask when in public places and stay home if you are not feeling well.
