WKCF awards Urgent Need Grants

The Western Kansas Community Foundation is awarding $14,500 in Urgent Needs Grants to four area organizations that deliver critical services in response to the COVID-19 crisis.

This is the first round of Urgent Needs Grants provided by WKCF. The Urgent Needs Grants are made possible thanks to generous donations to the Urgent Needs Fund that was recently established with the Foundation.

The following organizations received grants:

- Real Men Real Leaders, Garden City - $2,000 to supplement funding of their after-school and volunteer programs.

- Shepherd of the Plains Foundation, Cimarron - $5,000 to purchase sanitization supplies and additional dining tables and chairs to enhance and implement resident and worker safety and social distancing.

- TFI Family Services, Garden City - $2,500 to provide COVID-19 relief services, specifically sensory/calm down tool kits and personal protective equipment to foster children and their families.

- Salvation Army, Garden City - $5,000 to provide COVID-19 relief services such as utility payment assistance and monthly food box programs.

WKCF continues to grant from the Urgent Needs Fund as long as funds last. Grant applications will be reviewed every 2 weeks by the WKCF Grants Committee together with representatives from the Finnup Foundation and Finney County United Way. Grant distributions will be made immediately following the selection.

“We welcome applications from any eligible nonprofit organization in our 15-county service area, “says Conny Bogaard, WKCF’s Executive Director. “COVID-19 has hit our area hard. We are extremely fortunate to have agencies that can assist with a wide variety of needs, from providing healthcare, offering financial assistance to putting safety measures in place and help with food and shelter. But as the crisis evolves in unexpected ways, we anticipate more grant requests in the next few months. We continue to seek donations to build the Urgent Needs Fund. It takes all of us to get through this.”
