Local schools receive Challenge Awards

Four Garden City elementary schools have been named as recipients of the 2019 Challenge Awards by the Confidence in Kansas Public Education Task Force.

Ninety-two schools were named as recipients, including Edith Scheuerman Elementary School, Florence Wilson Elementary School, Georgia Matthews Elementary Schools and Gertrude Walker Elementary School in Garden City.

The awards recognize Kansas schools that are making a difference in student achievement despite facing significant challenges in their school population.

Since its inception in 2002, more than 1,700 awards have been presented to schools across the state.
