BROKEN ARROW, OKLA, - Freddie Robert Gill, age 95, Broken Arrow, OK, died January 7, 2020. He was born September 18, 1924 in Purdy, MO to Daniel Laton Gill and Frances Sina (Nichols) Gill. He lived in many states over the course of his life, including Missouri, Illinois, Colorado, Kansas, and Oklahoma. A proud patriot, he was drafted into the United States Army during World War II serving with the TSGT 59 Engineers in the Philippines from 1945-1947. Returning home, he spent his career working a variety of agriculture jobs in Colorado and factory work in Illinois while helping to raise a family of five children. He retired from the United States Postal Service in Garden City.

Fred enjoyed many hobbies including a passion for fishing, earning him the nickname “Fishin’ Freddie.” He was also an avid camper and proud RV owner serving as a past president of a Good Sam Club affiliate, The Wild West Sams. He was a dedicated gardener, always raising a bountiful crop and sharing it with family and friends. When he was not outdoors, he enjoyed old western movies and had an affinity for John Wayne. He also worked reconstruction and remodeling. Fred was a faithful member of the Tulsa Church of God.

Survivors include his children and their spouses, Charlotte and Gill Williams of Wichita, KS, Charles and Dee Gill of Garden City, Mary and Jim Peters of Golden, MO and Scott and Kim Gill of Garden City; stepchildren with Flora; Raymond, Jerry, Bill and Elle May; stepchildren with Shirley; Mark Alexander and his wife, Pam, of Sand Springs, OK, Melinda Arivett of Mounds, OK, Vance Alexander and his wife, Vickie, of Sand Springs, OK, Carla Arivett and her husband, Bill, of Coweta, OK, and Thomas Alexander and his wife, Kim, of Owasso, OK; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, a host of nieces and nephews as well as other extended family and a lifetime of friends.

Freddie was preceded in death by his parents, Daniel Laton Gill and Frances Sina (Nichols) Gill; son, Gary Gill; four brothers; two sisters; wife, Pauline; wife, Flora; and wife, Shirley.

Viewing will be from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m. January 10, 2020, with services following in the Chapel of Garrett Funeral Home of Broken Arrow, OK, with Pastor Steve Andrews officiating. Military Honors will be provided by the United States Army Funeral Honor Guard. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Freddie’s memory to Kansas Honor Flight, Post Office Box 2371, Hutchinson, KS 67502.
