LaVerne Mae Gaertner, age 82, died Dec. 2, 2019 at Integris Grove Hospital. She was born on January 12, 1937 in Dighton, KS, the daughter of Elmer and Rosa (Haag) Fosdick. On Oct. 22, 1960 she married William J. Gaertner in Salina, KS; they belonged to the Bernice Baptist Church in Bernice, Oklahoma, and are former members of First Christian Church in Garden City.
Survivors include a son Lance Gaertner and his wife Joni, two daughters Laura Sulzman, Wendy (Wendelen) Hemmert and her husband Darrell, and Phillip Sulzman. Three granddaughters Rikkie (Hemmert) Ortega and her husband Jacob, Alexa Hemmert and Abigayle Sulzman, three grandsons Tyler Boardman and his wife Bree, Trenton Gaertner and his wife Jenni and Andrew Sulzman, three great grandsons Kyndon Lee and Oliver Jude Boardman, Finnley Stone Boardman and great granddaughter Ellie Jo Ortega in waiting. She is preceded in passing by her parents, Elmer and Rosa Fosdick and her husband William Gaertner who passed in Nov. 2018.
Visitation will be from 1:00 PM until 2:00 PM on Friday, December 6, 2019 at Bernice Baptist Church in Bernice, Oklahoma. Services are 2:00 PM on Friday, December 6, 2019 at Bernice Baptist Church with Reverend Jerry Jones and Reverend Dean Williamson officiating. Interment will be under the care of Brown-Winters Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Dighton, Kansas on Monday.
The family has asked that memorial contributions be made to the Bernice Baptist Churches Vacation Bible School. Casketbearers will be Tyler Boardman, Trenton Gaertner, Andrew Sulzman, Darrell Hemmert, Jacob Ortega and Kyndon Boardman.
