SATURDAY, AUG. 24

Tumbleweed Festival: Fans of all ages are invited to Garden City’s annual music festival, taking over the West Green at Lee Richardson Zoo all weekend. This year, the festival has several stages — including a kids’ stage — kids’ art tent, art demonstrations, music workshops, food vendors and a beer tent. The festival will continue Saturday starting at 11 a.m. and run through late afternoon Sunday. Enter through the southwest gate to the zoo. Wristbands are $20 in advance or $25 at the gate for adults and $15 in advance and $20 at the gate for kids ages 11 to 17. Kids under 10 get in free with an adult. All wristbands are good for the whole weekend.

Garden City Farmer’s Market: Check out a little bit of everything, including fresh fruits and vegetables, handcrafted items and more, at this weekly summer market. The market is open from 7 a.m. to noon on Saturdays through Sept. 28 at the Westlake Ace Hardware parking lot, 1210 N. Fleming St.

FCHS Adoptions at Tractor Supply: Greet Finney County Humane Society animals at this adoptable event from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Tractor Supply, 3333 E. Mary St., Garden City.

GCCC Season Kickoff: Cheer on the Broncbusters at Garden City Community College’s first home football game of the season, beginning at 1 p.m. at Broncbuster Stadium.

Night Life on the Range: Break out the black lights and flashlights to see the bugs, bats and snakes bustling through the night at Sandsage Bison Range. Meet at the parking lot of Sandsage Bison Range at 8 p.m. and wear sturdy shoes for this free event.

 

SUNDAY, AUG. 25

Book Signing at the Museum: Former Garden City Telegram Sports Editor Brett Marshall will sign copies of his new book chronicling a half-century of Kansas high school football playoffs, “Under the Lights: 50 Years of KSHSAA Football Playoffs,” published in cooperation with the Kansas State High School Activities Association. Copies will be on sale for $25, cash or check. The signing will start with a short presentation and will take place from 2 to 5 p.m. at the Finney County Historical Museum.

Immigration Seminar: Immigration lawyer Eloy Gallegos will answer locals’ questions and concerns about ICE, immigration and citizens’ rights at this free community presentation, beginning at 5 p.m. at The Hot Spot, 407 N. Eighth St., Garden City.

 

MONDAY, AUG. 26

Story Time at the Zoo: Preschool children and their caregivers can gather for a story, craft, activity and meet-up with zoo animal ambassadors at this weekly story time at the Finnup Center for Conservation Education, located next to Lee Richardson Zoo. The session will run from 10:30 to 11:15 a.m. Email zoo.education@gardencityks.us with any questions.

 

TUESDAY, AUG. 27

Finney County Health Coalition Meeting: The public is welcome to attend this meeting from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. in classroom B at St. Catherine Hospital, this month focusing on the 2020 census. Small groups will meet at 11:30 a.m. to discuss healthy eating and active living, behavioral health and access to care in relation to the Finney County area. The Garden City Cultural Relations Board will host the main presentation.

 

WEDNESDAY, AUG. 28

Club Read: Meet at the Finney County Public Library at 9:45 a.m. for this adult library book club aimed at adults with intellectual disabilities. Participants will listen to a book read aloud by staff and then watch a movie based on the book.

 

THURSDAY, AUG. 29

Kennel Club Obedience Classes: Register for the Garden City Kennel Club’s fall classes from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Finney County Fairgrounds.

 

FRIDAY, AUG. 30

GCA Blushing Artiste: Enjoy some wine at this step-by-step group painting class from 7 to 9 p.m. at Garden City Arts. Register ahead of time for $35 ($30 for members) at Garden City Arts.

 

SATURDAY, AUG. 31

Low Cost Vaccination Clinic: Finney County Humane Society will hold a vaccination clinic from 9 a.m. to noon at the animal shelter. Parvo dog and puppy and FVRCP cat vaccinations are free and other shots, flea/tick treatments and microchips range from $10 to $30. Donations will be accepted.

 

SUNDAY, SEPT. 1

HorseThief Reservoir End of Summer Bash: Cornhole, hot wings and dancing to live music — end the summer with a bang at HorseThief Reservoir. The party will run from 3 to 11:45 p.m.
