This is an exciting time at the Finney County Senior Center. We are winding up for a lot of summer time fun. Everything from cookouts to ice cream socials to day trips, to our everyday fun activities and exercise classes. It’s going to be way too hot to cook lunch at home this week, so plan to stop by and enjoy a nice lunch in our friendly air-conditioned building. I would like to personally invite you to stop by and see the center, enjoy the cool, have free cup of coffee or iced tea and learn what all is going on here.

Our forecast for the next 7-10 days calls for temperatures 90 degrees and above. Here are 5 “Beat the Heat Tips” that I am borrowing from AARP:

STAY Hydrated — drink lots of water and eat your fruits and veggies STAY Indoors — avoid the mid-day to early evening outdoors heat STAY Cool — use fans or air conditioning, put cools cloths or liquid ice packs around your neck or under your armpits STAY Light — wear lightweight, light-colored clothes and a wide-brimmed hat STAY Safe — if your house isn’t cool enough come somewhere that is cool inside like the Senior Center of Finney County!!

It is time to sign up for our “Gone Fishin” trip to Scott Lake. We are going on Tuesday, July 9, leaving from the Senior Center at 9:30 a.m. We will return around 3 p.m. If you are age 74 or under and plan to fish, you will need to buy a fishing license (cash only) when we get to Scott Lake. A one day license is $8.50. I believe you can buy them online or at Wal-Mart, too. It will be a good idea to bring a lawn chair and some bug spray, too. The Senior Center will furnish a cookout style lunch. Call Shari or Della at 272-3620 to reserve your seat.

Our trip to Stauth Museum filled up fast. We are developing a small waiting list and may be taking an additional min-van to accommodate more museum-goers. Stauth Museum trip is on July 24.

Our newsletter will be in the mail on Friday. It has all the details about activities, events, trips, menus, etc. Let us know if you would like to receive a newsletter in the mail and we can add you to the list. We also, always have extras here at the center, if you want to stop by and get one.
