The Kansas Food Bank, Emmaus House, Salvation Army and Genesis Family Health are gearing up for the annual Letter Carriers “Stamp Out Hunger” Food Drive May 11.
The largest one-day food drive in the United States, the nationwide event assists local food banks and their pantry partners. Letter carriers see the struggles in the communities they serve and believe that it is important to do what they can to help.
Letter Carriers in Garden City will be delivering special blue bags, courtesy of Hampel Oil, to mailboxes across the community. Residents are encouraged to fill the bags with items that will be donated to local pantries. Specific items requested include canned fruits and vegetables, peanut butter, canned beans, tuna or other canned meats and meal-in-one type items such as soup, stew or chili.
The Kansas Food Bank collects and distributes donated and low-cost nutritious food to more than 700 hunger relief partners in its 85-county service area.
