The Western Kansas Community Foundation, Finney County United Way and Finnup Foundation are hosting a financial fundamentals workshop on April 24 that is specifically designed for nonprofit boards and staff and facilitated by Varney & Associates, CPAs, LLC.
The workshop is scheduled for 8:30 a.m. to noon that day in the Baffa Room of the Finnup Center, 312 E. Finnup Drive in Garden City. Check-in begins at 8 a.m.
The workshop will include information in the following areas:
• Planning: The training will focus on topics such as strengthening the budget development process and planning for and addressing financial uncertainty by establishing reserve funds.
• Operations: This section will cover the basics of nonprofit accounting and financial reporting and strengthening internal controls through the segregation of duties.
• Monitoring: The focus will be on understanding and interpreting financial information and managing restricted funds.
• Governance: Learn more about successful governance through defining roles and responsibilities of board members and board committees, and utilization of the board treasurer and finance committee as part of an effective internal control environment.
There is a $40 fee to register, payable to the WKCF.
