The Phi Theta Kappa honor society at Garden City Community College will honor two students during the Annual All-Kansas Academic Team Luncheon in Topeka on Thursday.

GCCC chapter Alpha Xi Upsilon will honor members Azat Jumadurdyyev and Clara Jackson with a medal, certificate and $300 stipend. Both Jackson and Jumadurdyyev also will receive at least a $1,000 scholarship for one of the six regents universities, Washburn University or one of several private colleges in Kansas.

Jumadurdyyev is an economics and finance major with a 4.0 grade-point average. He is from Turkmenabat, Turkmenistan, and plans to transfer to The King’s College in New York City. He is a member of Phi Theta Kappa, Student Government Association and Collegiate Quiz Bowl, is a GCCC resident assistant and a math tutor in the Comprehensive Learning Center.

Jackson is a biology and physician’s assistant major with a 3.9 GPA. She is from Garden City and plans to transfer to Washburn. She is a member of Phi Theta Kappa, the president of the Student Government Association, a member of the Math and Science Club, a Collegiate Quiz Bowl participant, a math tutor in the Comprehensive Learning Center and a student employee in the biology department.
