What: Come to Garden City Arts and have a glass of wine and light hors d’oeuvres while creating a painting that you can take home at the end of the night. Participants must be 21 or older.

First Friday Art Walk

What: Garden City Arts and Patrick Dugan's each featured artists or exhibits the first Friday of each month. This month, Garden City Arts will feature a member showcase and Patrick Dugans will feature the art of Yanet Deleon.

The Nutcracker

What: Steps Dance School's 9th biennial performance of The Nutcracker.

When: 6 p.m. Friday; 11 a.m. and 6 p.m. Saturday; 3 p.m. Sunday

Where: Clifford Hope Auditorium, 1412 N. Main St.

Tickets: $20 for premium seats in rows A-G, $10 for adult general admission and $6 for children.


Drop & Shop

What: The Garden City Family YMCA will host Holiday Drop & Shop childcare events every Saturday through Dec. 15. Experienced childcare professionals and the YMCA childcare directors will supervise children, lead them in arts and crafts activities, games, swimming sessions and movies and provide them with a sack lunch and snack. The service is geared toward parents who need childcare while they go shopping. All children must be able to use the restroom unassisted.

When: 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday

Where: YMCA, 1224 Center St.

Cost: $20 per child per day and $15 per additional child for YMCA members; $30 per child per day and $25 per additional child for program participants and non-members. Scholarships are available for those needing financial assistance with program fees.

GCA Creatives

What: This group gathers local creators and artists to discuss, learn and growth together. This month, the theme is artist trading cards

Drop-in Art Saturday

What: Drop in and enjoy multiple art-making stations for the whole family. This month's artist is Alexander Calder. Katy Guthrie is the instructor.

Tuba Christmas

What: Local tuba and euphonium players will fill downtown Garden City with Christmas music during Tuba Christmas, an event co-hosted by Garden City Downtown Vision and the Garden City Community College band.

When: 3 p.m. Saturday

Where: Grant Avenue in downtown Garden City

Cost: Free for the public; registration for interested players will cost $10 and begin noon the same day at the GCCC band building, with rehearsal immediately following.

Christmas parade

What: The 2018 Downtown Christmas Parade, presented by The Burtis Motor Co., will feature marching bands and brightly decorated holiday floats created by school and church groups, businesses, organizations and others. This year's theme is "Polar Express."

When: 6 p.m. Sunday

Red Stocking Breakfast

What: Eat, visit with local celebrities and bid on auction items during the annual Red Stocking Breakfast to benefit Kansas Children's Services League.

When: 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday

Tickets: $10 in advance and $12 at the door. Children 10 and younger eat free.
