While federal offices will close Wednesday per executive order so employees may remember the late former president George H.W. Bush on the designated national day of mourning, many local government offices will remain open.

Finney County commissioners voted Monday to keep county offices open Wednesday, and City of Garden City departments will also remain open.

District Court Administrator Kurtis Jacobs said the 25th Judicial District’s Chief Judge Robert Frederick stated that the district’s courthouses will remain open to maintain established schedules.

As a result, courthouses in Finney, Greeley, Wichita, Hamilton and Scott counties will be open on Wednesday and anyone expected to appear in court that day should appear, Jacobs said. Kearny County offices, including its courthouse, will be closed Wednesday by order of the Kearny County commissioners, he said. Those expected to appear that day should contact either their lawyer or the Kearny County District Court clerk’s office at 620-355-6481 to reschedule.

Grant, Hamilton and Scott county commissioners will decide whether their county offices are open during their Tuesday meetings. Should county commissioners decide to close the courthouses on Wednesday, the courts will be closed, Jacobs said.

County offices and courts will also be open in Gray, Haskell, Stevens and Stanton counties. Lane County offices will be open but its courts will be closed, by order of the 24th Judicial District. Those who need to reschedule appearances should call the Lane County District Court office at 620-397-2805.
