Friday, the Garden City Community College Mercer Gallery will open the Fractured Gatherings exhibition, which showcases clay works by faculty members and graduate students studying sculptural and functional ceramic in the Wichita State University ceramics department.
The exhibition will be on display from Nov. 2-Dec. 7 and will feature a wide range of artwork by a diverse group of artists at different stages in their careers.
A First Friday opening reception will be held from 5-7 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 2, featuring live music from the GCCC Faculty Jazz Ensemble.
Earlier that day, WSU Masters of Fine Arts candidates Allison Burch and Chuck Purviance will hold a ceramics demonstration from 9:30 a.m.-2:30 p.m. in the GCCC Clay Studio. Both events are free and open to the public.
Purviance is currently exploring new ideas through sculpting organic forms and figurative forms and Burch makes hand-built vessels that are reminiscent of the human body.
The Mercer Gallery is open Monday-Friday, from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. and will be closed Nov. 19-23 for Thanksgiving break. Admission is free to the public.
