Garden City’s Plaza Medical Center’s four physicians will join colleagues at Siena Medical Clinic, Women’s Clinic, Ulysses Family Physicians and Dodge City Medical Center by joining the Centura Health Physician Group, a network of medical providers throughout Kansas and Colorado, Centura Health announced Wednesday.

The Plaza physicians voted to join the group, and will combine resources with St. Catherine Hospital, a Centura facility, according to a release from the hospital.

Scott Taylor, St. Catherine Hospital president and CEO, said in the release that Plaza is one of many providers across western Kansas partnering with Centura.

“We are thrilled that the physicians of Plaza Medical unanimously chose to partner with Centura Health … Together we all share a vision — every community, every neighborhood, every life — whole and healthy,” Taylor said in the release.

According to the release, Plaza providers said “a larger ecosystem” will be beneficial to the clinic, allowing them to collaborate with physicians across the region and potentially develop new health delivery models. The partnership could allow access to facilities and information technology that would benefit patients, including an electronic medical record that would be available to all patients and offer real-time access to test results, reminders and other information.

Bryan Stucky, a Plaza physician, said in the release that Plaza had been working closely with Centura for several months and that he thought the partnership would benefit both the patients and the medical center.

“We have enjoyed a long-standing, close relationship with St. Catherine Hospital. Recently, I had the opportunity to learn more about Centura Health and what they bring to western Kansas. We all feel that together, we can improve care in our connected communities,” said Nathan Strandmark, a Plaza senior physician.

According to the release, the partnership better equips Plaza Medical Center and St. Catherine Hospital to face increasing challenges in the future.

The Garden City Area Chamber of Commerce will hold a ribbon cutting and open house at 5 p.m. Sept. 17 at Plaza Medical Center, 911 N. Main St., to celebrate the decision.
