Three area residents were injured Thursday afternoon in a two-vehicle accident in rural Lane County.

Gerhard Kenyans, 72, of Garden City, was driving a 2002 Dodge Dakota eastbound on Kansas Highway 4 about 4 miles east of the Kansas Highway 23 intersection at about 1:12 p.m., when he came up behind a 2012 Kenworth semi driven by Christopher Lawrence, 39, of Scott City, that was pulling a Nevi Sprayer trailer.

According to the Kansas Highway Patrol, Lawrence was attempting to make a left turn onto a field road, when Knehans attempted to pass and struck the front driver’s side of the semi. Knehan’s vehicle rolled one time and came to rest on its wheels, while the semi came to rest in the north ditch.

Gerhard Knehanswas injured and taken to Lane County Hospital in Dighton, while his passenger, Gayle Knehans, 72, Garden City, also was injured and was taken to Hays Medical Center. The KHP report states that both of them were wearing seat belts. Their conditions were not available Friday.

Lawrence, who also was wearing his seat belt, was taken to Lane County Hospital for his injuries. His condition also was not available.
