Two brothers who authorities say shot and killed a Garden City teen on July 15 now face additional charges.

Anthony Chavez, 21, 4860 Hillcrest Apt. 6A, and his 20-year-old brother, Andres Chavez, 1410 B St., were arrested on July 15 on allegations of first-degree murder in connection with the drive-by shooting death of 17-year-old Ramon Enriquez.

Finney County Sheriff Kevin Bascue said that in addition to the murder charges, both brothers now face additional charges of criminal discharge of a firearm at an occupied vehicle, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, and criminal possession of a weapon by a felon.

Bascue said authorities believe the shooting was drug-related and the result of a dispute between the Chavez brothers and those in the vehicle in which Enriquez was a passenger.

The Chavez brothers remain in the Finney County Jail, each on a $1 million bond.

According to the Finney County Sheriff's Office, at about 1:40 a.m. July 15, deputies were advised of a shooting in the 1600 Block of West U.S. Highway 50 between North Third Street and Campus Drive, where it was reported that someone from a vehicle had shot at another vehicle while traveling east on U.S. Highway 50. Both vehicles were moving at the time of the shooting, according to Bascue.

Bascue said the suspects allegedly fired shots into a blue Chevy Yukon in which Enriquez was a passenger.

The driver of the Yukon proceeded to the 2000 block of North Third Street in Garden City, where deputies responded and observed Finney County EMS and Garden City police providing first aid to Enriquez.

Enriquez was then transported to St. Catherine Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
