HAVEN — The Newton Rebels got another strong pitching performance, but couldn’t generate enough offense in a 2-1 loss to the Haven Warhawks Tuesday in Sunflower Collegiate League play at the Haven High School field.

Haven scored a run in the third inning and another in the sixth. Newton scored a run in the top of the sixth on a Dylan Brooks RBI. Brooks and Landon Erway each went two for four hitting for Newton.

R.J. Gaines took the loss for Newton, allowing one earned run on four hits with two walks and eight strikeouts.

Connor Brooks went six innings for Haven for the win, allowing a run on four hits with two walks and seven strikeouts.

Jared Scott finished the game, striking out five of nine batters faced.

Ethan Bergkamp went two for four hitting for the Warhawks, driving in a run.

Haven is 9-13. Newton is 6-18. The Rebels host the Wichita Sluggers at 7 p.m. today. The game is being switched from the Tabor College field and the Sluggers remain the home team.
