Four members of the Garden City High School Kansas Association of Family, Career and Community Leaders of America placed at the annual National FCCLA Conference June 27 through July 2 in Atlanta.

Senior Javier Cervantes took gold and placed fourth in the nation for Occupational Fashion Design. For his project “Just Clothes,” he designed and tailored a suit inspired by insect exoskeletons. Senior Brenda Resendiz took silver for Occupational Recycle and Redesign for a wedding dress she designed out of plastic and paper. Sophomore Cassandra Parra and junior Victoria Ramirez took bronze for Occupational Food Innovations. For their food innovations project, they created a dish with 65 grams of protein for an older audience.

Junior Kathryn Chandler also attended the conference as an FCCLA state vice president of public relations for the 2018-19 school year. Robyn Hilt, Elisabeth Maldonado and Jenette Turpin are the GCHS FCCLA advisors.
