The Garden City Area Chamber of Commerce plans to host a Kansas Republican gubernatorial candidate forum from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. July 11 in the auditorium at Garden City High School, 2720 Buffalo Way Blvd.
Candidates who have confirmed their plans to attend the event include Jim Barnett, Kansas Secretary of State Kris Kobach, Lt. Gov. Tracey Mann representing the Gov. Jeff Colyer's campaign, and Kansas Insurance Commissioner Ken Selzer.
“It is our goal that this forum provides the citizens of Finney County and southwest Kansas the opportunity to hear directly from the candidates so they can make the best decision at election time,” Myca Bunch, Chamber president, said in a press release. “We are happy to have the candidates visit southwest Kansas to participate in the event and wish them each success along the campaign trail.”
The event, open to the public, will begin with a two-minute opening statement from each candidate, followed by a question-and-answer session. Each candidate will then provide a two-minute statement to close out the forum. A reception following the forum will give candidates the opportunity to mingle with guests and answer additional questions.
Individuals interested in submitting a question for the forum may do so by emailing Bunch at firstname.lastname@example.org. All questions will be pre-screened by the chamber to prevent duplication and to ensure appropriateness.
A Democratic gubernatorial candidate forum also is being planned for July, and details will be released soon. For more information, visit www.gardencitychamber.net.
