So far this year, there already have been as many cars stolen as there were in all of 2016, and almost as many as in all of 2017.

According to the Garden City Police Department, there have been 24 car thefts in Garden City since the start of the year. All but one of the vehicles was reportedly unlocked with the keys left inside.

In 2017, there were 29 car thefts, and in 2016 there were 24.

Garden City police Capt. Randy Ralston said the thefts have been dispersed throughout town.

The police department is advising residents to remain vigilant, lock their vehicles and don’t leave valuables inside. If you do leave valuables inside, keep them out of plain sight and park in a well-lit place.
