Garden City High School was temporarily in lockdown Tuesday afternoon after a panic alarm was inadvertently activated.

According to Garden City police, school resource officers at GCHS were able to verify that it was a false alarm, but additional officers did respond to assist.

USD 457 Public Information Officer Roy Cessna said panic buttons are mounted on walls throughout the school in a way similar to fire alarms.

He said the button was pushed at about 2:15 p.m., and the school was in lockdown for less than 10 minutes.
