George Charles Esser was born July 25, 1942 to
Allen Charles and Myra
Elizabeth (Mounsey) Esser. George was raised in Medicine Lodge, KS. When old enough to start working, most of his free time was spent helping any farmer that needed it. Dad loved working with soil and equipment. He was always grateful to Bill and Betty Garten and Bob and Donna Garten for allowing him to learn about working the land. When it was time for Dad to attend college, he chose Southwestern College in Winfield, KS. There he met Judith Loye Quinby and on August 20, 1965 they were married in Larned, KS. Soon after, they moved to Hays, KS for Judy to finish her elementary education degree. Working outdoors was where George’s heart was, which led him to working for King Construction when they needed an extra hand working with concrete and building bridges in the Hays area. In 1970, the dirt and farm life were still calling George. He answered an ad for a farmhand job in southwest Kansas. This began a career and friendship of over 40 years with Bob Glunt and Glunt Farms. What started out as a small farm operation grew into 40+ center pivot irrigation circles and a feedlot with a 3,500 head capacity. George was very fortunate to work and live on the farm. He and Judy raised two daughters, Stacy and Jayna, with the country lifestyle that provided an appreciation for crops, weather, animals and the dedication it takes to be a part of the agriculture industry. Dad spent many long hours working with cattle, equipment, and dealing with what weather had to dish out, but wouldn’t have had it any other way. The farm also gave him the opportunity to design and create equipment for the operation. He could be found at farm shows checking out the latest and greatest in farm equipment and he would then go home and talk to Bob about building the same equipment…but stronger and better than what he had seen at the show. When time allowed Dad loved to hunt, fish, camp, and snowmobile. His first choice of where to do these activities were the Wyoming and Colorado mountains. He found a way to do all them closer to home as well, when time wouldn’t allow the travel. Dad was diagnosed with and fought hard against Multiple System Atrophy, a disease that seemed new in 2015. He again used his creative spirit to design and build things that would assist him to meet each challenge the disease presented. After eight years, the disease proved to be too much. George passed peacefully on December 26, 2022 at Eben Ezer Lutheran Care Center in Brush, CO. George is preceded in death by his parents, his brother and sister-in-law, Bob and Lesta Esser, and his sisters-in-law, Jackie (Quinby) Walker and Janet (Quinby) Mahn.
