A day after having their five-game winning streak snapped, the Garden City Wind got back on the left side of the ledger Tuesday night at Clint Lightner Stadium.

Mike Rachun’s RBI double in the fifth plated Ryan Whitt and provided the Wind the game-winning run in a 7-5 win over the visiting White Sands, N.M., Pupfish, the fifth victory in six games against White Sands for the Wind.

The win improves the Wind to 11-15 in the Mountain Division of the Pecos League. Though they are 7-3 in their last 10 games, the Wind still sit in fifth in the six-team division, six games in front of White Sands and 5 1/2 behind division leader Alpine, Texas (16-9).

In the fifth, Whitt walked with one out, and then advanced to second on Taylor Zeutenhorst’s walk. Rachun then laced a 2-1 pitch for a double to score Whitt, breaking a 3-all tie at the time. Zeutenhorst subsequently scored on Cameron Ketchen’s groundout to make it 5-3.

Ray Hernandez added an insurance run in the seventh with a single to score Whitt, and then Whitt added another run with a groundout to score Taylor Ellis in the eighth.

Each of those runs were needed as White Sands plated single runs in each of the eight and ninth innings, but the rallies fell short as the Pupfish dropped to 6-22.

Wind starter Ryan Calby picked up the win, going six solid innings. He gave up 11 hits and three runs and walked two, while striking out none. He’s 2-0 with a 5.54 ERA in two starts this season. His opposite, Pupfish starter Jesse Remington, took his third loss of the season in four starts, going just five frames and giving up five runs on seven hits, four walks and a strikeout. His ERA ballooned to 7.46.

Jack Finnegan recorded his second save of the season for the Wind, allowing three hits and one run in the ninth, but striking out a pair to get out of the jam and cement the victory.

Joey Cecere was the only Wind player to have multiple hits, going 2 for 4 and scoring once. Whitt scored three times on 1 for 3 with two walks. Zeutenhorst and Ketchen each had a pair of RBIs.

The Wind and Pupfish conclude their seven-game series at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday night at Clint Lightner.
