Holcomb's No. 1-ranked Class 4A-Division II boys basketball team rallied from a 16-point halftime deficit to capture a stunning 62-57 overtime victory against Finney County rival Garden City on Saturday night at The Garden in the final game of the 2014 Clarion Inn Southwest Classic.

The game, before a near-packed house, brought an end to the three-game event that is hosted by both Garden City and Holcomb, as well as neighboring Scott City.

Christian Merz and Trey Sleep combined for 45 points to lead the Longhorns back from a 38-22 halftime deficit and force overtime with the game tied at 51.

Merz scored 23 for game-high honors while Sleep added 22. 

Garden City was led in scoring by Jared Koster's 20 points, including a perfect 14-of-14 free throw shooting. Caleb Tramp added 15 for the Buffs.

In the earlier girls contest, the Lady Buffs overwhelmed the Lady Longhorns 50-21.d

Games played earlier in the day saw the Scott City boys complete a 3-game sweep by rolling over Pueblo, Colo. East 59-33 as Trey O'Neil scored 18 points to pace the No. 4-ranked 3A Beavers.

Pueblo East's girls posted an easy 60-26 victory over Scott City's girls.

The first two games of the six-game set, all played at The Garden, saw Wichita Trinity's girls win over Kansas City Christian 56-30 while the Trinity boys cruised to a 61-35 win over KC.

Garden City saw its record slip to 3-3 while Holcomb improved to 4-0. Scott City is now 3-0.
