A six-run ninth inning for the Garden City Wind put the finishing touches on a 14-4 rout of host Great Bend on Wednesday night.

The Wind had led by as much as six runs before the Boom cut it to three runs — 7-4 — in the seventh inning. But the Wind responded with a run in the eighth and the ninth-inning explosion to finish off the Wind’s third consecutive win to reach .500 at 9-9.

Wind second baseman Nick Francis provided much of the offensive punch, driving in three runs on 4 for 6 at the plate, including a double. Third baseman Beau Welborn also had four hits, scoring once in five at bats. Joey Cecere, Matt Consigli, Clay Ardeeser, Eli Roundtree, Ken Olszewski, and Ryan Riordan — the starting pitcher — each had two hits, as well, as the Wind racked up 22 base knocks.

Riordan’s offense helped his solid pitching effort, which last six innings, giving up two runs on 10 hits and two walks. He struck out four.

With the win, the Wind tied the Boom (8-8) in second place in the Pecos League’s North Division standings, 3.5 games behind Trinidad (14-7).
