John Bunnell won high in the two tables of pinochle on Wednesday, Oct. 16 at the Senior Center of Finney County, 907 N. 10th St. Robin McLinn won second place and Ruth Dunlap took third place.

Senior Center double pinochle

Bob Baker won high in the three tables of double pinochle Monday at the Senior Center of Finney County. Donna Preston won second place and John Bunnell took third.

Senior Center pitch

Elvin Hazen won high in the first three tables of pitch Tuesday at the Senior Center of Finney County. Robin McLinn took second place and John Bunnell took third.

Acorn Club

The club met at Barbara Kough's home, where Barbara presented the history of Fort Henry in Baltimore. The "Star Spangled Banner" was written by Francis Scott Key as he watched the American flag fly over the fort after a battle with the British in 1814.

The next meeting will be at Patti Trent's home.

Sherlock Strivers 4-H Club

The Sherlock Strivers 4-H Club met Sunday, Oct. 6 at Holcomb Elementary. The meeting was called to order and the club members said the pledge of allegiance and the 4-H pledge. The officer reports were given.

In old business, members were reminded that enrollment for the 2019-20 year started on Oct. 1 and will run until Dec. 15 for returning members and May 1 for new members. Adi George talked about the club's float in the Holcomb Homecoming Parade. Club Leader Jennifer Jones led the new officer installation. After the installation, the new officers took over.

Under new business, Taylor Knoll discussed the 50/50 drawing at the Holcomb football game. Jill George talked about selling pumpkins and how much the club has made so far.

It was discussed that National 4-H Week would be Oct. 6-12 and that the club would start the week off by wearing a 4-H shirt to school. Leaders shared that officer training would be Oct. 27 and the achievement banquet would be Nov. 24.

The club's next meeting will be the potluck/parent meeting and club members decided our meal would be soup and sandwiches. This will be Nov. 4 at Holcomb Elementary.

October birthdays were celebrated, canned goods were collected for the Emmaus House, Pop Tops were collected for Ronald McDonald House and ink cartridges were collected for Magic’s Hope.

The meeting adjourned and the members enjoyed a recreation game brought by new rec leader Blake Dryden.
