Want to eat out with friends more often? Our Friendship Meals are served Monday through Friday at noon. These hot, nutritious meals not only provide good food, but are also a great way to meet up with old friends and make some new ones. Menus are published each week in this column, and also in our bi-monthly newsletter. Don’t receive our newsletter? Get placed on the mailing list by calling the senior center at (620) 272-3620.

Are you interested in volunteering more? We have many opportunities for you! Meals on Wheels is always welcoming volunteers to help deliver meals to our local homebound residents. Call the senior center for more information about Meals on Wheels. There are also many opportunities through RSVP. They offer chances to volunteer not only at the senior center, but many other places in Garden City throughout the year. You can reach them at (620) 275-5566.

Donate cell phones

Did you get a new cell phone for Christmas? If so, you can donate your old one to the senior center! They are recycled and used to help with expenses for the noon lunch program.


Scheduled activities

Thursday: TOPS, 9 a.m.; Ambassador Singers and Skip-Bo, 1 p.m.; strength training, 4 p.m.; yoga, 6 p.m.

Friday: Line dancing, 8:30 a.m.; a nurse from St. Catherine Hospital is here from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m.; bridge, 12:45 p.m.; EnhanceFitness, 2 p.m.; monthly covered dish dinner, 6 p.m. (bring your favorite dish and enjoy good music).

Saturday: The pool room is open from 1 to 4 p.m.

Sunday: Duplicate bridge, 2 p.m.

Monday: Double pinochle, 12:30 p.m.; EnhanceFitness, 2 p.m.; strength training, 4 p.m.; duplicate bridge, 7 p.m.

Tuesday: Walking, 9 a.m. at Walmart; gentle exercise, 11 a.m.; pitch, 12:30 p.m.; bridge, 1:15 p.m.; yoga, 6 p.m.

Jan. 10: Line dancing, 8:30 a.m.; Completely Unraveled, 9:30 a.m.; pinochle, 12:30 p.m.; EnhanceFitness, 2 p.m.; dance featuring Craig Stevens, 7:30 p.m. (this dance will be free in memory of Wally Unruh).


Lunch menu

Lunch is served at noon.

Thursday: Chicken Kiev, baked potato with fixin’s, cauliflower, Rice Krispie treat.

Friday: Potato-crusted cod filet, cheddar mashed potatoes, peas, pudding.

Monday: Bacon-wrapped pork loin, mashed potatoes and gravy, baked beans, applesauce.

Tuesday: Tater tot casserole, green beans, corn muffin, ice cream.

Jan. 10: Chicken and noodles, mashed potatoes, carrots, cookie.
