At Meade, the No. 1-ranked, defending Class 2-1A champion Buffaloes opened the 2011 football playoffs with a resounding 74-20 victory over the Oakley Plainsmen on Friday night.

The Buffaloes were ahead 30-14 after one quarter and 52-20 at halftime.

Their defense shut out the Plainsmen in the second half while putting up another 22 points.

Trevin Wiens had a huge rushing night for the Buffs, with 15 carries for 356 yards (23.7 average) with seven of those going for touchdowns. His longest run was one of 68 yards. Jett Little had 156 yards on just nine carries with two touchdowns, one of which covered 80 yards.

The Buffs' powerful running game accounted for 587 yards, averaging 17.8 yards per attempt.

They will now face LaCrosse on Friday in a rematch of last year's second round as the Leopards beat Moundridge, 34-0, and like the Buffs are unbeaten.
