The Cimarron Lady Bluejays and the Sublette Larks boys posted first-round victories Monday night at the Cimarron Bluejay Invitational basketball tournament. The tourney concludes Saturday.
Cimarron girls 83, South Gray 22
Avery Burns, a 5-5 guard who was a Telegram All-Area first team selection as a junior, scored 17 points to lead the Lady Bluejays while Lindsay Wehkamp, a 5-10 forward, added 14 to the winning effort.
Cimarron took control early, leading 21-2 after one quarter and 50-13 at halftime. It was 63-18 after three periods. In all, 12 players cracked the scoring column for coach David Ediger's team, now 2-0. Dusty Watkins paced South Gray (0-2) with 11 points.
Bucklin girls 49, Satanta 27
The Bucklin Lady Red Aces opened with a 12-3 first quarter lead, extended it to 21-7 at halftime and put the game away with a 21-13 third period advantage en route to their win over the Lady Indians.
Morgan Hood's 16 points topped the Red Aces while Megan Long had 8 points to lead Satanta.
Satanta falls to 0-2 while Bucklin is now 1-1.
Sublette boys 57, Bucklin 43
Sublette's boys used a strong second half to pull away from Bucklin to post the Larks' first round victory at the Invitational.
The Larks were in front by a 10-3 count after one quarter but then the Red Aces closed to within 26-24 at halftime. The Larks went on an 18-7 scoring spree to break the game open and closed out the game with a 13-12 edge in the fourth quarter.
Taylor Williamson had 21 points and Alex White 10 for the Larks.
Meade boys 54, Satanta 17
The Buffaloes made quick work of Satanta by breaking out to an 18-3 first quarter lead and then increasing it to 32-5 at halftime and 45-8 after three periods.
Randy Friesen's 13 points paced a balanced Meade (2-0) attack while Garrett Miller had 9 points to pace the Indians ((0-2).
