Rain halted play Friday night as the Great Bend Boom came to bat in the bottom of the ninth inning and the score tied at 5 with the Garden City Wind.

At presstime, the game had not resumed.

Great Bend got on the board with a single run in the first when the Boom put a runner on first on a throwing error, moved to second on a passed ball and scored on an RBI single by Darryl Baca.

The Wind knotted the score in the second when Beau Welborn and Crdaig Jaquez singled, followed by a walk to Brandon Nelson. Welborn scored on a fielder’s choice by Eric Esquillin.

Garden City jumped out to a 4-1 lead with a three-run fifth inning.

Nelson walked, Esquillin singled, moving Nelson to third before Matt Consigli grounded out but Nelson scored. Clay Ardeeser then singled with Esquillin scoring an unearned run. Ardeeser raced home on an RBI double by Eli Roundtree.

The Boom countered with one run in the seventh on a walk, stolen base and an RBI single by Logan Trowbridge.

The back-and-forth battle continued into the eighth, with the Wind scoring once to make it 5-2. Nelson had an RBI single, scoring Welborn, who had walked to open the inning.

But as has happened numerous times this season, the Wind couldn’t hold the lead as the Boom pushed across three runs in their half of the eighth.

Two errors by the Wind contributed to the Boom rally, all of which occurred with two outs. The game went to the ninth all tied.

The Wind went silently in their half of the ninth, going down in order. Then the rain came and the game was stopped.
