Wesley “Wes” Morris, 95, a former Garden City resident, died Sunday, Dec. 21, 2014, in Rogers, Ark., where he had resided for six years.
He was born March 14, 1919, in Olney, Texas, to James and Mary (Stout) Morris.
On Aug. 17, 1940, he married Thelma Jo “Nana” Cobb. They lived in Cushing, Okla., raising their sons, Donald, born in 1941, and Roger, born in 1945.
In 1941, Mr. Morris enlisted in the military and served as part of the Navy Sea Bees during World War II. In 1959, the family moved to Garden City, where they lived for 48 years. He was a truck lease operator for Earl Bray Lines, retiring in 1982 after driving a truck for 36 years. He was a life member of American Legion Post 9 and VFW Club Post 2279. He loved fishing and camping, watching his grandchildren play sports, and enjoyed baseball and football.
Survivors include two sons, Don and wife Judy of Rogers, and Roger and wife Donna of Garden City; seven grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and eight great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, his parents and several siblings.
A graveside service is planned at a later date.
