Scherzer, Mets finalize $130M, 3-year deal NEW YORK – The Mets and threetime Cy Young Award winner Max Scherzer finalized a $130 million, threeyear deal Wednesday, a contract that shattered baseball’s record for highest average salary and forms a historically impressive 1-2 atop New York’s rotation with Jacob deGrom. Scherzer said he was convinced during a video call with Mets owner Steve Cohen last month that the second-year owner was going to do whatever it took to build a winner in Flushing.

Wildcats eager to finish season on a high note

AUSTIN, Texas — The wounds of a second straight loss were still fresh for the Kansas State Wildcats, but at least they knew it wasn’t the end of the line. After falling 22-17 to a struggling Texas team last Friday in their regular-season finale, coach Chris Klieman and his players were understandably disappointed and frustrated — words uttered repeatedly in the postgame interview room.

NASCAR looks to future growth

NASCAR will close its season this week with a three-day celebration in Nashville that ends with the crowning of three new national series champions in Kyle Larson, Daniel Hemric and Ben Rhodes. NASCAR will do burnouts on Lower Broadway near popular honkytonks Doc Holliday’s Saloon and Bootleggers Inn.
