My wife shared a photo recently in a family group chat that got me thinking. The photo, taken 20-some years ago, was of my daughter, Claire, and son, Alek, helping her make chocolate chip cookies.

Dear Amy: My stepdaughter, “Serena,” and her husband, “Ned,” have two small children, ages 2 and 4. They also both have demanding, stressful jobs.

There’s work, then there’s working outside in 80-degree weather with a view of blue skies and sunsets. A couple weeks ago my family made our annual trek to Arizona, compliments of my mother-in-law who opens her winter home to us.

My excitement that baseball is back is tempered by the fact my favorite team is headed for last place this season. The owners and commissioner and the players association came to an agreement on a bunch of stuff I don’t really understand nor do I care enough to learn about.
