February is International Hoof Care Month. Animals with hooves are known as ungulates or hooved mammals. Their hooves are the tip of the animal’s toes, strengthened by a thick keratin covering. Keratin is the type of protein that makes up our hair and nails. Just as our nails and hair need trimmed and maintained for good health, ungulates require care for their ever-growing hooves.
