Halloween fun at GCCC

Celebrate the spooky season at Halloween Fest at Garden City Community College. This is the first year of the Halloween celebration, hosted by the GCCC Student Government Association, Great Western Dining, GCCC Facilities and Garden City High School’s JROTC program.

GCCC Endowment’s Phonathon raises over $46,000 in fundraiser

Garden City Community College’s Endowment Association has announced it raised $46,760 in pledge donations from the 2022 Phonathon event. “The Endowment Association truly appreciates the generosity of our donors and supporters,” Barb Wells, GCCC Endowment Association interim director, said. “The funds raised will help to provide next year’s scholarships for the participatingprograms and organizations. Thank you to everyone that participated in this year’s event.” The Endowment Association held its annual fundraising event from Oct. 3-13, 2022, making calls and requesting donations from inside the GCCC Beth Tedrow Student Center’s Endowment Room. Funds raised by staff and student volunteers will directly benefit GCCC students.

USD 457 middle school music students selected for district

Orchestra and band students from Horace Good Middle School and Kenneth Henderson Middle School auditioned and made the Southwest District Middle School Honor Band and Orchestra. They competed against students from Dodge City and Great Bend to earn their spots. There are 67 orchestra students from the Southwest District who will perform in a concert on Nov. 5 at Dodge City Middle School. The HGMS orchestra students include: Violin: Allyson Blanco-Zetino, Kaydence Gomez, Jizelle Velasquez, Raelynn Miller, Lydia Payne, Emelin Dominguez Romero, Jareth Borjon, Lexi Peters, and Alexander Mezquita Ramirez. Violin Alternates: Georgiana Lozano, Alejandra Valenzuela Chavarria, and Nayeli Ochoa. Viola: Bryson Workman and Liliana Hernandez.Cello:Juan Delgado-Dominguez and Xochitl Vazquez Paredes. Pope Bahrain trip blends Muslim outreach, Catholic ministry

ROME (AP) — Pope Francis’ upcoming trip to Bahrain blends three of his top priorities as pope: Ministering to a tiny Catholic community, promoting dialogue with the Muslim world and fostering relations with other Christian communities, according to details released Thursday by the Vatican. The Nov. 3-6 visit will mark Francis’ second trip to the Gulf, his second to a majority Muslim nation in as many months and his second to participate in an interfaith gathering sponsored by someone other than the Vatican to promote dialogue among people of different faiths.
