GCHS students qualify for state debate
The Garden City High School debate team has five students that have earned spots to compete at the Kansas State High School Activities Association (KSHSAA) State 4-Speaker Debate tournament. The students are Shawn Dreiling, Trasyn Crandall, Kira Roth, Bryce Orlich, and Michael Oswalt.

GCCC receives donation for new greenhouse
Garden City Community College received a $50,000 donation from American AgCredit to support a new greenhouse, a core component of the upcoming Crop Production Technology program. As part of GCCC’s Title III Hispanic Serving Institution STEM Grant, anewCropProduction Technology program is in the development.

SWKS COVID-19 UPDATE
Finney County has added 60 new positive confirmed COVID-19 cases with an overall total of 13,115 as of Dec. 12, with 173 active positive cases being monitored, the same as last week.
Zoo to close on holidays
Lee Richardson Zoo will be closed on Christmas Day, Dec. 25, and New Year’s Day, Jan.

Larger zoos, with larger budgets, may be able to devote habitat space and resources to many of those animals that have special requirements or expensive tastes.
