Information on three new scams came to my attention recently. They are worth looking at so you can be on alert.

The first scam is known as the "Walgreens Pharmacy" scam. Kansans have been receiving calls from someone claiming to be a Walgreens Pharmacy representative in need of Medicare beneficiaries' personal information. The caller claims the new Medicare reform requires beneficiaries to change all prescriptions to a 90-day fill. The caller then asks for the senior's Medicare number, Social Security number and birth date. In fact, Walgreens Pharmacy does not ask for such information they already have it. Be wary of anyone who calls and requests personal information due to health care reform.

The second scam is "ObamaCare" scam. Scam artists are attempting to sell fake "ObamaCare" insurance policies. Some will come to your home. Others will tell you there is a limited enrollment period. There also is the version where scammers pose as government employees and request a senior's bank account number in order to send the $250 donut hole rebate. In fact, there is no "ObamaCare" insurance.

Third is the annual door-to-door home repairs salesmen scam. During summer months door-to-door merchants often try to sell services such as replacing roofs, paving driveways or other home repairs. These repairs get started, you pay the repairman and then he disappears. If you need repairs, get bids from local, professional businesses. Ask for references and check them.
