With fall sports in full swing, the Garden City Telegram is beginning a new Athlete of the Week program, starting on Monday.An online voting contest will collect nominations of student athletes who has had outstanding accomplishments in their sport.
It didn’t go to overtime in the rematch between Garden City and Dodge City in the Western Athletic Conference soccer schedule.Yet, the outcome ended the same way as the first one, a 2-1 setback Thursday night at Buffalo Stadium for the Buffaloes in what has been one heartbreaking loss after another.
DODGE CITY - The Western Athletic Conference one-day round-robin championship is still more than two weeks away, but the Tuesday night sweep of conference foes Liberal and Dodge City extended the Garden City High School volleyball winning streak to 11 matches.However, the twin victories at Dodge City High School’s gymnasium didn’t come easily.Yes, they did sweep Liberal in two sets, but the first one was a hard-fought 25-21 score and then followed by a 25-15 margin.
The Garden City Community College volleyball team went 1-1 this week in Jayhawk conference matches, outlasting Seward County on Wednesday to win in five sets in front of the home crowd.
