Dear Eric: Recently, it was “assumed” by my husband’s family that we would host a gathering for some out-of-town relatives. We have a better house for entertaining. Everyone brought a side dish, or dessert. I usually have at least one gathering a year for his family. I’m happy to do it. We have a nice dining room, but our table was not going to work for the number of people attending.

When the opening pitch was made at Buffalo Stadium to open the 2025 Garden City High School girls’ home soccer schedule, little did the Buffaloes realize how quickly lightning can strike.
DODGE CITY - Maybe it was just simply survival of the fittest on Thursday when the Garden City High School track teams opened their 2025 season at chilly, blustery Memorial Stadium in Dodge City for the Southwest Kansas Relays.
The Holcomb High School girls’ swimming team is starting out strong for this season, with a second place team finish Thursday in the Garden City High School quadrangular at the Garden City Family YMCA.
Daryelin Rivas Chavez and Keiry Abreu both homered, Yina Ballesta Vargas struck out eight, and Garden City beat Dodge City, 10-6, Wednesday in the first game of a doulbeheader at Tangeman Sports Complex.
The Garden City Community College track and field team traveled to Lubbock, Texas, on Friday and Saturday to compete at the Masked Rider Open hosted by Texas Tech.
