Consider ways to aid Windsor

Dear citizens,

The end-of-year merriment makes our organization ruminate on the 2014 progress accomplished and yet to pursue. What becomes apparent is that individuals make it all possible by allowing the work of the Alliance to move forward.

The Windsor Hotel is our community’s legacy building and not only the heritage of our common experience, but, the future. Confirmation of Garden City’s significance and resilience is manifested in the Windsor. It is the result of the labor and investment of those who came before us and renovation will be the symbol of the character of those who follow.

We received a grant from Western Kansas Community Foundation for hardware to begin collecting the oral histories about the Windsor. Our ambition is to share training and equipment with the community to gather and illuminate our past by capturing the stories embodied in local people living life. Chronicling their narrative is the ultimate preservation of what went before and so easily lost.

Early next spring the Windsor Hotel will be stabilized and capped with a new roof and skylight as the result of the Transportation Enhancement grant work. It will be up to all of us to build on this momentum and take the next steps necessary to renovate the Windsor Hotel.

You can become a part of that quest by joining the Finney County Preservation Alliance at whatever level, from member to board member. We need people of focus and commitment to carry the past into the future!

As you bid adieu to 2014, take a moment for philanthropy and extend your legacy past today into a lifetime and beyond. Give a tax-deductible, end-of-year gift to the Windsor Hotel.
